Rising Appalachia is an internationally touring folk ensemble led by Atlanta-raised sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith. Steeped in the musical traditions of the South and influenced by their global travels, the group blends Americana, Appalachian, and world folk into a soulful, harmony-rich sound. Their latest release, Folk & Anchor, is their first album of cover songs—featuring reimagined classics from artists like Bob Dylan, Beyoncé, Hozier, and Erykah Badu—all recorded at Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC.
With full-time members David Brown (bass, baritone guitar), Duncan Wickel (fiddle, cello), and Biko Casini (percussion), Rising Appalachia has built a reputation for genre-bending performances, lush instrumentation, and meaningful cultural exchange. Their journey has taken them from New Orleans street corners to global festivals, weaving traditional song studies with community building and activism.
Now 16 years and seven studio albums in, the band continues to carve its own path—eschewing industry norms to create music that bridges stories, cultures, and generations.
